ATM Group greets the opening of the Kalamaria extension of the Thessaloniki Metro, a significant milestone in the development of Greece's first fully automated metro system.
The official inauguration ceremony, held at Mikra station, was attended by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas and European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas, together with other senior representatives of the Greek Government and national and local institutions.
Less than two years after the inauguration of the metro line, the extension takes the network to 18 stations and approximately 15 kilometres of line, improving connectivity and bringing sustainable public transport to thousands of more residents, enhancing the attractiveness and accessibility of the metro system across the area.
ATM Group is operating Thessaloniki metro through THEMA and has supported the Company throughout the project’s preparation phase. A key strength behind THEMA is the combined expertise of ATM and Egis, which has helped establish the operational foundations of the Thessaloniki Metro and remains central to its successful growth, delivering a safe, reliable and passenger-focused service.
The project reflects ATM Group's ability to transfer international best practices in the framework of automated metro operations, leveraging decades of experience gained in Milan and Copenhagen.
