From heritage to design: ATM celebrates 95 years with Compasso d’Oro ADI 2026 award

ATM celebrates 95 years with Compasso d’Oro ADI 2026 award

ATM Group has been awarded with the Compasso d’Oro ADI 2026, the most prestigious international design accolade.

The prize acknowledges the historical research project that led to the exhibition “ATM Manifesto. Storie, viaggi e design”, that revealed to the public archival materials, visual communication and design elements to reflect the evolution of the city and its transport network.

Promoted by ADI Associazione per il Disegno Industriale, Compasso d’Oro aims to highlight excellence in design, innovation and social impact, contributing to the development of a responsible and sustainable design culture.

The award holds particular significance for ATM as it coincides with the Company’s 95th anniversary, marking nearly a century of innovation and commitment to public transport. Since its foundation on 22 May 1931 as Azienda Tranviaria Municipale, ATM Group has continuously evolved alongside the cities where it operates, contributing every day to shaping its rhythms, movements and connections.

From the first trams to e-buses, from early metro lines to today’s automated systems and the Full Electric Plan, the Company’s journey reflects mobility in constant transformation, serving both cities and people within a broader vision: mobility as an enabler for inclusion, sustainability and quality of life, as well as a key component of contemporary urban design.

To mark this anniversary, ATM has launched a dedicated page on its digital Historical Archive featuring previously unpublished materials: Archivio Storico ATM.
